Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses a series of clear thermoplastic aligner trays to straighten your teeth and/or jaw. Over time, the trays shift your teeth into the optimal position.

You can remove your aligners to brush, floss, and eat, but you should wear them at least 20 to 22 hours every day to ensure a successful outcome.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

Dr. Yoo regularly prescribes Invisalign treatment because of its many advantages. For example, Invisalign works up to 50% faster than traditional braces. The aligners can treat various issues and are easy to care for.

Even better? Invisalign is available for adults, teenagers, and children. What’s more, treatment is comfortable. The soft thermoplastic doesn’t poke, cut, or irritate your gums.

For kids, Invisalign even comes equipped with a blue compliance indicator. This feature monitors your child’s wear, ensuring a positive treatment outcome.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Dr. Yoo uses Invisalign to treat various alignment issues, including:

  • Misaligned teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowding
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Misaligned jaw

Invisalign can treat bite abnormalities, including crossbite, underbite, and overbite.

During your in-office consultation, Dr. Yoo completes an oral exam and takes a series of digital X-rays to determine if you can benefit from treatment.

What does Invisalign treatment involve?

To create your personalized treatment plan, Dr. Yoo evaluates your teeth and takes digital scans of your mouth. He then makes digital molds using an intraoral scanner. Thanks to the advanced Invisalign technology and software, you can preview your final results on a monitor.

After customizing your molds, a dental lab creates your Invisalign aligners. You return to Dr. Yoo’s office when they're ready and try them on.

You wear your aligners for about two weeks before transitioning to a new pair and continuing the teeth-straightening process. At each Invisalign checkup, Dr. Yoo monitors your progress and makes any necessary adjustments.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Invisalign treatment takes 6-18 months on average*, but it may take longer. After you finish wearing your aligners, you transition to an orthodontic retainer. The retainer helps maintain your results by preventing your teeth from moving out of position.
